GREAT DAY FOR SUFFOLK YOUNGSTERS – posted 10 September 2012
Organiser Peter Ingram was still buzzing 24 hours after local cycle speedway riders took part in the opening ceremony of the Tour of Britain in Ipswich.
“What a great day” said Peter. “The Waterfront was packed and buzzing by 8am. Our cycle speedway national champions were right behind Hugo Robinson, national age-group champ in cyclo-cross, and Shaun Andrews who is national BMX champ. We were waiting to start whilst rubbing shoulders with international riders as they passed to sign on.
“When starting the ride-out, we cycled alongside the teams awaiting the start and, after our ride of about 400 metres, we all waited for them all to proceed past on the journey to Norfolk Showground. I think the memory will certainly stay with my riders for quite a while – and the parents too!” said an excited Peter.
“Ipswich deserve special praise for the work at Alderman Road recreation ground promoting the sport, together with Ivan Pike. That area was very busy all day as it was on the Sky Ride route.
“A truly great day for cycling and, dare I say it, shows benefits of being part of British Cycling!”
